Dosing Considerations

Royal Chanca Piedra can be used for immediate/urgent use to support intense kidney, liver or gall bladder issues, such as relieving pain during a gall bladder attack. It has also been shown safe to use in a maintenance dosage to help support the structure and functions of kidneys, liver, and gall bladder.

What is Chanca Piedra?

Chanca Piedra is an Amazon rainforest plant that helps to maintain optimal liver, gall bladder, and kidney health. It is the popular name given to several small fern-like plants in the Phyllanthus genus (botanical family Euphorbiacceae), including Phyllanthus spp.

What makes Royal Chanca Piedra royal?

Double Strength Capsules and Potent Extracts
Royal Chanca Piedra capsules are “double strength” because the 400mg (weight) actually has the medicinal strength of 800mg. The combination of dried liquid extract and powdered plant material increases the potency. The liquid extract form of Royal Chanca Piedra is a 1:1 extract, meaning equal amounts of plant material and extraction agent are in the liquid. Most other companies offer 1:2 or 1:4 strength, which means two to four times as much extraction agent (solvent) as plant material.

One cup of Royal Chanca Piedra Tea, made with one gram (one teaspoon) of dried herb simmered for 15 minutes in 1 ½ cups of water is equal in strength to 30 drops of the liquid extract (one milliliter) or one capsule containing the extract from 400mg of dried herb (plus almost 400mg of powdered leaf). The capsule is double strength because of the added powdered leaf. All the formulations work well; it’s a matter of personal preference as to which formulation you use.

What is the difference between Royal Chanca Piedra Kidney-Bladder Support and Royal Chanca Piedra Liver-Gall bladder Support?

Royal Chanca Piedra contains a variety of Phyllanthus species and is sold under two labels, one for kidney-bladder and the other for liver-gall bladder, to better highlight how the botanical works in the body. The contents of the bottles and the benefits are the same for both products. The label dosage varies slightly since kidney-bladder issues may require a higher dosage than liver-gall bladder issues. This botanical product is also available in a loose tea form.

Can Royal Chanca Piedra be taken while undergoing other medical treatments, including lithotripsy?

Yes. We have not found any contraindication, through scientific literature or thousands of customers using this product, in terms of interference with prescription drugs. In fact, one study has shown that Chanca Piedra can increase the effectiveness of the lithotripsy treatment.

What is the best dosage for me?

Most people will take 1 capsule (30 drops) at a time. In an immediate or urgent situation (see product label tab), consider taking 1 capsule (30 drops) 3-5 times a day away from food. For maintenance, one serving a day of 1-3 capsules (30-90 drops) is usually enough, several days a week.

What is the shelf life for Royal Chanca Piedra?

Chanca Piedra Promotes Effectiveness of Kidney Stone Shock Wave Treatment

Study: “Can Phyllanthus spp affect the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for renal stones? A randomized, prospective, long-term study.” Micali S, Sighinolfi MC, Celia A, De Stefani S, Grande M, Cicero AF, Bianchi G. J Urol. 2006 Sep;176(3):1020-2. PMID: 16890682
Objective: To determine the efficacy of Phyllanthus spp (Chanca Piedra) after shock wave treatment for kidney stones.
Design: Analyze 150 patients with stones as large as 25mm. 78 patients received Phyllanthus spp extract for 3 months after the treatment, the others were the control group and received no supplementation.
Results: Stone-free rate (stones or fragments less than 3mm) was 93.7% in the group taking Phyllanthus spp and 83% in the control group.
Conclusion: Phyllanthus spp taken after shock wave treatment increased the stone-free rate, thus improving outcomes.

Chanca Piedra Interferes with Kidney, Bladder, and Urinary Tract Stone Formation

Study: “Effects of an aqueous extract from Phyllanthus spp on calcium oxalate crystallization in vitro.” Barros ME1, Schor N, Boim MA. Urol Res. 2003 Feb;30(6):374-9. Epub 2003 Jan 21. PMID: 12599017
Objective: To determine the effect of Phyllanthus spp (Chanca Piedra) on kidney, bladder, and/or urethra (urinary tract) stones.
Design: Urine samples were collected from both rats and humans with calcium oxalate stones (the leading type of kidney stones). The samples were evaluated with and without the presence of Phyllanthus spp.
Results: The crystals that form the stones were significantly smaller from the samples with Phyllanthus nuriri. Formation of crystals after 24 hours was inhibited by Phyllanthus spp.
Conclusion: Phyllanthus spp may interfere with the early stages of stone formation and may represent an alternative form of treatment and/or prevention of stones forming in the kidney, bladder, and/or urethra (urinary tract).
