Royal Maca is an ingredient in SHE. What is Royal Maca?

Maca rootsThe Maca root is a hardy cruciferous vegetable cultivated in an inhospitable region of the Andean Mountains at altitudes from approximately 12,500-14,500 feet. Native Peruvians have used Maca for several thousand years, as a medicinal food to enhance fertility, libido, to support healthy erectile function in men, and to alleviate PMS and menopausal symptoms in women. It was used by the warriors of the Inca King for energy and stamina.

Maca is rich in essential minerals, especially selenium, calcium, magnesium, and iron, and includes fatty acids including linolenic, palmitic and oleic acids, and polysaccharides. Maca is an adaptogen-like, which means it helps the body adapt to stress, and promotes healthy hormonal balance.   (Maca is not considered a true adaptogen because it is possible to take too much maca, creating side effects in the body.  Correct dosing is very important.)  Because endocrine gland balance and immune system function are so interrelated, it often notably promotes a healthy immune system.

Royal Maca 175gRoyal Maca is our brand name for the best Maca root product in the world:  grown and processed in Peru on certified organic fields, planted and harvested during the full moon–according to millenia-old indigenous practices, purchased by Whole World Botanicals at Fair Trade prices from Maca farmers with whom we have had a relationship for almost two decades.  Most Maca available in the U.S. today is grown in China, at altitudes too low to produce the most potent Maca, from seeds smuggled out of Peru.

Royal Maca is cooked by a process called gelatinization (there is no gelatin or any other additive involved despite the odd name).  Peruvians never eat raw Maca.  The somewhat toxic enzymes present in raw Maca are considered unhealthy. Scientific research backs this up.
