Q: For the last three weeks, I’ve been taking 3 Royal Camu capsules a day and 3 Royal Maca caps in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I know everyone is different but is there a time frame where one feels it really kick in? I still have the hot flashes in the morning and evening. My moods are still iffy, energy low, no libido, head a bit fuzzy, balance is not there…but then in my quest to feel better maybe I am being impatient. Should I perhaps supplement the Royal Maca with pregnenolone and the Royal Camu with 5HTP?

A: No, no, no! If you are at the right dosage, these botanicals will “kick in” anywhere from one to four days. If you supplement a “wrong” dosage of Royal Maca (wrong for you because everyone’s different) with pregnenolone, you’ll literally being adding fuel to the fire of your hot flashes. An average dosage – so it might not apply to you– for menopausal hot flashes is 6 capsules a day. Four caps is on the low side for many women. But remember the dosing rule for Royal Maca: Take a starting dosage for 5 days and if your symptoms are not at least 80% better, increase your dosage by one capsule a day—for the next 5 days.
Royal Camu generally works just great as a mood balancer if you are at the right dosage — for you. At 3 caps a day you are not taking even the smallest recommended dosage for mood balance support. So it doesn’t seem like a good idea to go running to another supplement. The minimum amount for most people is two caps (1/3) tsp. twice a day on an empty stomach – first thing in the morning and at about 3 or 4 p.m. Some people need 3 caps twice a day. Others need up to 5 caps (one tsp.) twice a day. Again, start small, and let how you feel be your guide.
